In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the education landscape faced unprecedented challenges, with traditional modes of learning being disrupted across the globe. In India, the closure of schools posed a significant threat to the academic progress of millions of students. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Government of Telangana embarked on a collaborative effort with OAKS to ensure that learning remained accessible to students, even amidst the pandemic.
OAKS, a leading EdTech company, rose to the occasion, partnering with the Telangana government to implement its innovative learning platform for over 350,000 students across 31 districts. This initiative, aimed at students from class 6-10 in various educational institutions, including TSWREIS, TTWREIS, ITDA Badharchalam, TMREIS, and TREIS, marked a significant step towards making education accessible to all, regardless of geographical constraints.
The implementation of the OAKS application addressed several key challenges faced by both teachers and students during the transition to online learning. Issues such as access to smartphones, network connectivity, and lack of expertise in conducting online classes were effectively mitigated through a combination of innovative solutions and strategic interventions.
One of the standout features of the OAKS platform was its ability to personalize the learning experience for each student, thereby minimizing the workload of teachers and fostering independent learning. Through live sessions, tailor-made videos, and concept-based byte-sized videos mapped to the school syllabus, students were able to engage with the content at their own pace, gaining a deeper understanding of subjects like Science and Mathematics.
The ‘Adopt the Village’ initiative further exemplified OAKS’ commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in education. By empowering teachers to adopt villages and provide students with access to smartphones and learning resources, OAKS ensured that even students in remote areas could benefit from online learning.
The impact of OAKS’ intervention was tangible, with over 80,000 active students engaging with the platform daily and watching more than 8 million minutes of content in just five months. Moreover, students demonstrated a remarkable improvement in performance, with an average improvement of 38% among those using the OAKS app compared to those who did not. This positive outcome underscores the effectiveness of personalized, technology-enabled learning solutions in driving academic success.
As we reflect on our journey amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic, we are reminded of the resilience and adaptability of both educators and students. Through our collective efforts, we have not only overcome adversity but also laid the groundwork for a more inclusive and accessible education system.
Looking ahead, OAKS remains committed to pushing the boundaries of educational innovation, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to unlock their full potential, regardless of the circumstances. Together, let us continue to harness the power of technology to empower the next generation of learners and shape a brighter future for all.
